Novorozenecká žloutenka
Novorozenecká žloutenka je způsobena rozpadem červených krvinek (erytrocytů) dítěte, z nichž se následně uvolňuje krevní barvivo (hemoglobin). Novorozenecká žloutenka se objeví zhruba ve třetím až čtvrtém dni života u více 50% novorozenců.
Důvod je prostý: Novorozenec má z nitroděložního života přebytek krvinek, v krvi novorozence je tak přechodně vysoká hladina rozpadových látek. O vyloučení rozpadových látek z těla se postarají játra, následně jsou tyto produkty odvedeny žlučí do střeva a formou stolice ven z těla. Potřeba odstranit rozpadlé červené krvinky je však mnohem vyšší než samočistící schopnost organismu, a tak se část rozpadových produktů (zejména bilirubin) ukládá v kůži a zbarvuje ji do žluta. Novorozenecká žloutenka následně u jinak zdravého dítěte sama během několika dní odezní.
Nejlepší prevencí novorozenecké žloutenky je časté kojení - kojený novorozenec se ttiž snadno zbavuje smolky, která bilirubin obsahuje. Tím je bilirubin z těla vyloučen, nedostane se do krve a novorozenecká žloutenka nenastává.
